We are seeking a highly organized and diligent Claims Officer to join our dynamic team in Lagos. The Claims Officer will be responsible for collecting and analyzing claims information presented by customers or third-party claimants, making recommendations on payment processing, and providing excellent customer service as the first line of contact. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Job Detail
Responsibilities
- Receive notification of loss from customers and call center agents.
- Register notification of claims into claims register, open file, and allocate claim number.
- Acknowledge claim notification and request claims substantiating documents from claimants/brokers to ensure accurate and complete information on claims.
- Notify the first responder team of the customer's loss or emergency.
- Collect and review documentation provided by customers.
- Schedule appointments with claimants/brokers to arrange for physical inspection by the survey team.
- Extract relevant information on the risks covered from the underwriting file and document.
- Raise credit notes on claimants where premium outstanding.
- Prepare cheque requisitions to pay claimants, co-insurers, solicitors, and other professionals.
- Verify the correctness of values on claims cheques and dispatch to claimants/brokers.
- Register all approved claims cheques into settled claims register.
- Send copies of loss adjusters' reports to co-insurers and collate opinions on their recommendations.
- Provide assistance to customers on documentation and information requirements for initiating claims payout.
- Assist customers in calculating their claim settlements.
- Follow up with customers to verify receipt of claims settlement, first-responder services, and benefits.
- Redirect customer inquiries to the right unit or function within the organization.
Job Requirements

Qualifications
- HND / Bachelor's Degree in Insurance, Finance, Accounting, or any related discipline.
- Professional certification such as CIIN, ACCA, ICAN, or relevant qualification would be an added advantage.
Education Requirements
- HND / Bachelor's Degree in Insurance, Finance, Accounting, or related fields.
Experience Requirements
- Previous experience in claims processing or a similar role is preferred.
Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
