The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for the research and generation of investment ideas for clients, portfolio asset allocation in line with each client’s investment policy statement, and the drafting of investment memos for the Investment Committee. This role demands a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of the bonds and equities markets, both locally and internationally.

Key responsibilities include communicating investment instructions to brokers, generating periodic investment reports, liaising with trustees and the SEC on fund-related issues, and maintaining records of corporate actions. The successful candidate will also be expected to recommend positions on corporate actions and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Job Detail

Responsibilities

  • Research and generate investment ideas (bonds and stocks) for clients and proprietary trading.
  • Allocate portfolio assets in line with each client’s investment policy statement.
  • Draft investment memos for the Investment Committee.
  • Communicate investment instructions to brokers and counterparties.
  • Generate periodic investment reports and documents (e.g., factsheets for mutual funds, quarterly reports for discretionary and non-discretionary portfolios).
  • Liaise with Trustees and SEC on fund-related issues.
  • Maintain records of corporate actions and recommend positions when offered different corporate action options.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in research or portfolio management in a bank or investment management company.
  • In-depth knowledge of Bonds (Naira and Eurobonds) and Equities (Nigerian and international).
  • SEC sponsored individual status is an advantage.

  • Proven experience in a similar role.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Second Class Upper) or HND (Upper Credit) in a related discipline.
  • MBA in a finance-related field is an advantage.
  • Professional qualifications such as ACS, CFA, ACA are an advantage.

Experience Requirements

  • At least 7 years’ experience in research or portfolio management.
  • Experience in a bank or investment management company.
