We are currently seeking a skilled Drill Rig Mechanic to join our team in Mfamosing, Cross River. This role is responsible for executing and supervising daily drilling activities, coordinating with the blasting team during the charging process, and overseeing main and auxiliary mining activities such as leveling quarry benches and opening new limestone quarries with two Epiroc drill rigs. The ideal candidate will regularly check in with mining and drilling machine operators to ensure health and safety, particularly for those working alone in remote and challenging areas of the limestone quarry.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and comply with HSE policies to ensure that health, safety, and environmental considerations are the first priority of the business.
  • Actively support key safety initiatives at the plant and assist the department as needed to improve HSE performance and results.
  • Ensure safe working conditions and good safe practices are applied at work.
  • Organize and execute drilling operation work sites to ensure work is carried out in a green, safe, and injury-free environment.
  • Provide precise instructions and ensure commitment from subordinates to avoid any confusion about work.
  • Serve as a middle chain point between technicians and team leaders, providing backup in case of absence.
  • Execute and implement drilling operations, assigning each drilling technician their daily work.
  • Report the reasons for shutdowns and drilling operation production to the drilling & blasting team leader.
  • Work with technicians to report the drilling log, which affects the explosives charging in the drilling holes.
  • Conduct first inspections for all equipment daily with technicians and operators, cascading the breakdowns and their effects on operations.
  • Follow up on breakdowns with the workshop team to complete repairs, planning a time frame for each breakdown.
  • Communicate with the operation team about planned blasts and their readiness.
  • Coordinate with drilling and mining operators to evacuate the quarry during the blasting process.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in executing and supervising daily drilling activities.

Education Requirements

Experience Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in the cement or a similar industry.
  • Minimum of 4-5 years post-qualification experience.

Skills

  • Solid knowledge of drilling machines operation.
  • Knowledge of SAP.
  • Good knowledge of RCA methodology and facilitating skills.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle a range of management, coordination, and technical issues.
  • Ability to make technical decisions related to equipment performance and condition evaluation.
