The main objective and responsibility of the WATSAN Supervisor position is to support the Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation (WATSAN) Manager in the implementation and supervision of WATSAN activities, including tools and materials employed according to MSF standards and protocols. This role aims to improve the health and living conditions of the target population.

Job Detail

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the day-to-day implementation and administration of assigned WATSAN activities at the project level, including water supply, excreta disposal, waste management, vector control, and dead bodies management.
  • Ensure that MSF procedures and protocols are followed by the WATSAN teams to guarantee the operational quality of the project.
  • Ensure the maintenance and repair of technical equipment in the project to guarantee adequate running of WATSAN activities.
  • Ensure the distribution of materials and tools used in water treatment, hygiene, and sanitation, including physical organization and inventory of stocks, receiving and processing orders, and checking monthly consumptions.
  • Support the WATSAN Manager in ensuring appropriate emergency preparedness and response capacity, including physical verification of stocks, contacts, transport means, and staff training.
  • Participate in emergency activities or exploratory visits as required.
  • Support the WATSAN Manager in team planning, including staff rosters, HR processes, and providing all required reporting.
  • Plan and supervise HR processes for staff under supervision, including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, task definition, and communication.
  • Participate in data collection and reporting as required.
  • Participate in the assessment of health facilities in preparation for vaccination interventions.
  • Design a waste management flow for vaccination interventions.
  • Ensure availability and proper functioning of components such as safety box reducer, water supply, and temporary waste storage facilities for safe waste management.
  • Handle any mass vaccination-generated wastes that cannot be treated by incineration, such as vials and ampoules.
  • Support training of vaccination teams on waste management and Infection, Prevention, and Control (IPC).
  • Ensure day-to-day waste management is done correctly, including segregation, storage, transportation, and disposal/treatment.
  • Relate well with the Ministry of Health (MoH) through supportive supervision and capacity building.
  • Conduct regular meetings to discuss waste management challenges and propose solutions.
  • Support logistics, including checking the condition of the cold chain during mass vaccination campaigns.
  • Ensure availability of WATSAN materials and equipment for mass vaccination campaigns.
  • Ensure a water provision circuit for handwashing and drinking water during campaigns.
  • Report any challenges immediately to the supervisor.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
