We are currently seeking a dedicated Radio Operator to join our team in Kano, Nigeria. The Radio Operator will play a crucial role in ensuring effective communication and coordination within our field teams, supporting our mission to deliver lifesaving medical assistance.

Job Detail

Responsibilities

  • Operate HF and VHF radios, ensuring compliance with MSF security rules and avoiding the use of sensitive or security-related information.
  • Maintain the quality and transmission capacity of radio frequencies (HF and VHF).
  • Install and program frequencies in various radio types as needed.
  • Ensure messages are accurately copied and passed to relevant parties, recording them in the radio logbook.
  • Respond to radio contacts from other approved organizations and forward information appropriately.
  • Make scheduled radio contacts with reference bases, capital, and/or field teams, forwarding all security-related information to the Project/Capital Coordinator.
  • Monitor and log the movement of people, vehicles, and cargo, including departure, arrival, number of passengers, and route taken. Report any delays to the line manager.
  • Supervise and monitor the VHF radio allocation book and register the loan of handsets to staff, conducting regular follow-ups.
  • Install, operate, and perform preventive maintenance checks on assigned equipment. Report any damage, loss, or theft to the line manager immediately.
  • Maintain the communications room and equipment in clean and tidy conditions. Ensure HF and VHF batteries are in good working condition.
  • Provide basic radio training to MSF staff as necessary.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the line manager.

Qualifications

  • OND qualification.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role.
