Malaria Consortium is a globally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention, control, and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases among vulnerable populations. Since its inception in 2003, the organization has made significant strides in integrating its malaria interventions with broader public health initiatives, including child health and neglected tropical diseases. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced State Technical Officer (STO) to join our team in Kaduna, Nigeria.

The STO will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of our programmes at the state level. This position demands a highly motivated individual with a solid background in public health, exceptional project management skills, and a commitment to improving health outcomes in developing countries. The STO will work closely with the State Project Manager (SPM) and a team of professionals to provide technical support, build capacity, and ensure the efficient delivery of health services across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Kaduna State.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in coordinating state-based activities related to malaria prevention, including the distribution and monitoring of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs), Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) for children, and improving case management for malaria. The STO will also support the State Ministry of Health (MoH) in implementing and managing malaria and other communicable disease control programmes, ensuring that all activities meet international quality standards. This role involves extensive collaboration with public sector, private sector, and civil society organizations to train health workers and community caregivers on malaria prevention and case management.

Job Detail

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the implementation of state-based activities on malaria prevention.
  • Work closely with sub-recipients to deliver mass distribution of LLINs.
  • Support the State MoH in delivering SMC services to eligible children.
  • Coordinate programme activities to support malaria case management.
  • Support the State MoH in implementing Intermittent Preventive Therapy for pregnant women (IPTp).
  • Provide technical support for the planning and management of malaria and other communicable disease control programmes.
  • Coordinate training for health workers, community caregivers, and PMVs on malaria prevention and case management.
  • Build the capacity of State MoH personnel on malaria technical areas.
  • Prepare and submit project malaria technical activity reports.
  • Coordinate procurement, supply chain, and logistics activities for the project.
  • Contribute to the finalization and operationalization of the project performance and M&E frameworks.
  • Represent Malaria Consortium in malaria Technical Working Groups (TWGs) and other relevant health coordinating committees.
  • Contribute to project start-up and planning tools, project exit strategy, and lessons identification and dissemination.
  • Ensure the roll-out of project service delivery activities meets international quality standards.
  • Document evidence and best practices related to the programme.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Degree in Medical, Public Health, Health Policy, Epidemiology, or another relevant specialty.
  • Significant experience working in developing countries.

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Knowledge of medical supplies procurement and supply chain management.
  • Technical knowledge and skills in the control of malaria, pneumonia, and diarrhoea.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Medical, Public Health, Health Policy, or Epidemiology.
