Job Detail

Responsibilities

  • Lead community outreach activities, including mid-upper arm circumference screening and active case finding for malnutrition in children under 5.
  • Provide Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) services in target communities and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
  • Conduct defaulter tracing, follow-up visits, and deliver key messages at the OTP site.
  • Oversee the timely identification of complications, non-responders, and two-way referrals to the stabilization center (SC) based on set criteria.
  • Develop a Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) work plan and produce trends of malnutrition based on admissions.
  • Carry out mortality audits at the OTP.
  • Support the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) unit during assessments and focus group discussions, including preparation and submission of timely reports.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation of services and continuously monitor OTP performance and output indicators.
  • Support effective management of SAM children with complications at the Stabilization Centre.
  • Ensure correct clinical diagnosis, comprehensive health checks, and appropriate treatment according to protocols.
  • Support capacity-building activities for local NGO staff working with FHI 360.
  • Ensure all criteria are respected and understood, including admission, discharge, and transfer to and from the OTP/Stabilization Center (SC).
  • Conduct daily ward rounds and develop a 24-hour call-duty roster for Ministry of Health (MOH) and CMAM-SC assistants.
  • Take weekly and monthly physical inventory of all nutrition supplies, ensuring stock levels are accounted for.
  • Ensure adequate availability of all medical and food supplies and ensure stock is pre-positioned as planned by discussing with logistics.
  • Oversee the preparation of safe therapeutic milk and food for admitted SAM children and caregivers.
  • Work closely with CMAM assistants at the SC to ensure all protocols are understood and appropriate referrals take place to and from the OTP.
  • Ensure comprehensive health checks, checking vitals, frequent medicine and feed administration, and treatment according to protocols.
  • Report on progress and any problems in a timely manner.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding the technical aspects of the program admission and discharge whenever necessary.
  • Update patient forms and files, including the critical care pathway (CCP) card and OTP follow-up cards, to ensure completion, accuracy, coherence, and tracking of patient progress.
  • Provide key health and education messages to beneficiaries based on protocols and guidelines.
  • Compile statistical data on admissions, defaults, cures, absences, and deaths, and draft activity reports.
  • Support Standardized Monitoring and Assessment of Relief and Transition (SMART), Semi-Quantitative Evaluation of Access and Coverage (SQUEAC), and other nutrition surveys at the LGA level.
  • Perform other related tasks as required, and report and communicate progress and achievements of assigned tasks.
  • Inform the Technical Officer (TO) HNS of any professional problems encountered.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • B.Sc in Nursing with 1-3 years' experience, or MBBS with 1 year of experience.
  • Experience working with a humanitarian organization is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Nigerian public sector health systems, NGOs, and CBOs is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience working in a humanitarian crisis is highly desirable.

Education Requirements

  • B.Sc in Nursing.
  • MBBS.

Experience Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience in a humanitarian organization is a plus.
  • Experience in a clinical setting is an asset.

Skills

  • Ability and willingness to stay at the Local Government Area (LGA) is required.
  • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult working conditions.
  • Excellent spoken and written Local and English languages.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare weekly and monthly program reports.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in daily work implementation.
  • Ability and willingness to travel via road, 100% time from Maiduguri to Konduga LGA.
