The role of Assistant Technical Officer (ATO), Primary Health Care (PHC) at FHI 360 involves providing essential medical services to vulnerable populations in Maiduguri, Borno. The ATO-PHC will triage, examine, diagnose, and treat patients at the health facility. Additionally, the role requires building the capacity of the State Ministry of Health (SMOH) clinic in-charge to undertake leadership and project management tasks, including proposal writing for government support.
Key responsibilities include working as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing accurate diagnosis and treatment, participating in community health programs, maintaining patient records, and ensuring adherence to infection prevention and control standards. The ATO-PHC will also engage in continuing professional development and report compilation.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the Nigerian clinical setting, excellent interpersonal skills, proficiency in English and Hausa, and the ability to travel extensively within the region.
Job Detail
Responsibilities
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality patient care.
- Provide accurate diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients.
- Assess patients and refer them for specialized health care as required.
- Participate in the delivery of quality health care in a primary health care setting.
- Adhere to relevant codes of conduct and ethics.
- Participate in outreach and community health programs.
- Provide health education to patients.
- Maintain accurate patient care records, including consumables and instruments used.
- Organize regular support supervision visits with BSPHCDB and LHGA staff.
- Collaborate with technical and M&E teams to collect baseline data.
- Stay informed on current programs and developments in Clinical Management.
- Compile and submit periodic reports.
- Ensure infection prevention and control standards are maintained.
- Engage in continuing professional development, including training and mentoring.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Nigerian clinical setting, including government and non-government settings.

Education Requirements
- MB.BS, MD, or equivalent with a valid practicing license.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 1-3 years post NYSC relevant experience in emergency and constrained settings.
- INGO experience is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Nigerian public sector health systems and NGOs/CBOs is highly desirable.
- Previous experience working in a humanitarian crisis is highly desirable.
Skills
