The American Graduate Assistant Program at AUN seeks to employ U.S. citizens early in their careers to serve the campus community through various service activities. Participants must meet the requirements for admission into the graduate program to pursue a Master of Science in Communications for Social and Behavioral Change. This academic program, developed in conjunction with UNICEF, comprises 36 credits and can be completed in two years. Successful candidates will report to the Director of Sustainability, who coordinates community service activities through the President's Office.

Graduate Assistants will reside in on-campus single rooms in the student Residence Hall (Hostel), though they may share a room with another student of the same gender if space is limited. They will receive two meal swipes daily for the student cafeteria, a monthly stipend of ₦50,000 to cover living expenses, health services at the AUN Clinic, and coverage for all tuition and fees during their employment in the Master's program. Additionally, they are entitled to one-way travel tickets for each six months of service and round-trip tickets for a year of service to the United States. The program operates on a 9-month service contract, meaning participants work only while students are on campus and are not required to stay during summer and Christmas/New Year holidays.

Graduate Assistants will work a maximum of 29 hours per week, supporting various program activities as needed. They will be on a Nigerian student visa, with AUN providing necessary support for obtaining the visa from Nigerian Immigration. Participants must hold American passports, which are not covered by the program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with campus community service activities coordinated by the Director of Sustainability.
  • Support program activities identified by the President, Dean of Students, Director of Campus Activities, and Director of Community Service.
  • Develop and implement community service projects.
  • Monitor and evaluate community service programs and activities.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and community partners.
  • Contribute to the development of reports and documentation related to community service activities.
  • Assist in organizing events and activities that promote community engagement.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
