Currently, Street Child operates in 22 countries across Africa and Asia, with a network of over 130 local partners. The Senior MEAL Officer is responsible for supporting the planning, implementation, and follow-up of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) processes as part of the implementation team. This role includes developing and executing annual MEAL plans, creating or adapting MEAL tools, training staff, communities, and partners, and documenting and disseminating key learnings from MEAL and research results.

The Senior MEAL Officer ensures that all projects are accountable to beneficiaries and other stakeholders in line with Street Child Nigeria and donor policies and practices. This role is performed in close collaboration with the Programmes staff and key stakeholders and partners under the consultation of the MEAL Manager. During major humanitarian emergencies, the role holder may be expected to work outside the normal role profile and adjust working hours accordingly.

Job Detail

Responsibilities

  • Provide MEAL-related support to downstream partners in the projects.
  • Coordinate routine monitoring and training of relevant partners in MEAL methodologies and tools (including sampling techniques, data collection tools and techniques, data analysis, and reporting).
  • Participate in the initiation and conduct of the baseline, and end-term evaluation of the project.
  • Support in updating the Management Information System (database) and relevant tools for the project.
  • Ensure all projects are connected to the newly digitalized MEAL system.
  • Contribute to the quarterly output performance reports.
  • Implement and execute the MEAL frameworks for the projects.
  • Develop and implement quarterly and annual Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning Plans for projects.
  • Provide ongoing support in reviewing the MEAL framework, plans, and tools for projects.
  • Provide feedback for field-based partner project staff.
  • Undertake data quality assurance (DQA) and use the Quality Benchmarks.
  • Document and share lessons learned, case studies, and best practices to inform ongoing implementation, advocacy, and future programming.
  • Promote accountability among all staff, community, and district levels in the project impact areas through training, coaching, and follow-up.
  • Facilitate establishment and utilization of appropriate feedback mechanisms to improve programming and enhance accountability.
  • Support consistent and systematic integration of MEAL issues into the projects.
  • Maintain coordination and effective relationships with team, colleagues, and external partners.
  • Contribute to various data reporting systems and ensure data use for decision-making processes.
  • Implement MEAL plans, including working with project teams and partners to support tools and data for the plans.
  • Attend local strategy meetings/discussions held under child safeguarding procedures.
  • Discuss subsequent action required to ensure the safety and welfare of children.
  • Monitor the progress of all child safeguarding cases.
  • Facilitate regular opportunities to discuss concerns about practice within teams.
  • Support the integration of child safeguarding into all activities.
  • Co-arrange ongoing capacity building of staff in child safeguarding issues.
  • Work with program managers to ensure awareness among beneficiaries about the Child Safeguarding Policy.
