A 14 year old British girl by the name of Sophie Frost, was attempting to take shelter from a thunder storm, when all of a sudden a lightning bolt knocked her unconscious. Note the key use of the word unconscious, meaning she lived; the iPod, being metal and the best conductor, took the brunt of the bolt, saving Sophie’s life.

While I can’t say the iPod was as lucky as the girl, at least she is safe thanks to her Apple product; she is currently being treated for several burns, but is completely fine other than that.

It would seem as though we have all learned a valuable lesson; always keep your iPod with you during a thunderstorm, as it will save your life. Guess you better keep it next to the mirror you carry on hand for deflecting lasers.

Last September, in the Dutch town of Groningen, a fourteen year old boy was robbed of 165 Euros ($230) and his cell phone after being dragged off his bicycle by two perpetrators.

After several months, the victim was checking out Google’s Street View in March and saw an image of himself being tailed by two individuals whom he believed to be the criminals.

The victim went back to the police who then had prosecutors approach Google for the original photo (faces of people in Street View are blurred by Google for privacy) and Google (being the benevolent “God” it is) happily obliged. With the original photo in their hands, detectives recognized one of the suspects and proceeded to arrest them.

So next time you plan on robbing someone, or you yourself get robbed, remember both God and Google are watching, and Google is on the Internet.

Have you ever wondered how many pages it would take to put all that information together?

We haven’t…we don’t have that much time in our hands you see. However, Rob Matthews, a graphic design student from Brighton, Sussex apparently did.

That’s a pretty big book

He took two weeks of his life – that he will never get back – to make a book 5,000 pages long, yet contains only 437 featured articles. It is all about 1foot, 7 inches tall, or about 0.5 meters for our metric folk.

Wikipedia currently has just under 3 million articles, so according to my calculations, a book containing all that would be over 19 miles, or 30 kilometers high.

I think I’ll stick to the online version.

#2 Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress shoots himself in the thigh
Shooting yourself in the thigh at a nightclub is embarrassing enough, but Burress was wearing sweatpants, to boot. Reportedly the glock pistol he had tucked in the waistband of his sweatpants started to slip and, in reaching for it, Burress shot himself. He’s still in jail on weapons charges.

#1 Jaguars punter Chris Hanson axes his own foot with a locker room prop
This is probably the weirdest injury, and definitely one of the stupidest. Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio had installed a wooden stump in the team’s locker room, complete with an axe, in an effort to encourage the team to “keep on choppin’ wood.” Many of the team members took swings, but Hanson was the only one who missed the wood and hit his foot instead.
